“Coming to the center has always felt like a welcoming experience for me, where both the staff and fellow participants create a warm, at-home atmosphere that makes me comfortable. My favorite programs are the senior fitness sessions and the senior day of play. Senior fitness gets me up and moving. Orman provides us encouragement and helpful advice on our senior bodies. Senior day of play allows me to share my hobbies and engage in creative activities, from painting rocks for gardens to making watercolor greeting cards and even exploring embroidery. I believe that Western Avenue Community Center is crucial for our community. It fosters opportunities for those of us on the west side to engage in revitalization efforts while supporting a diverse environment for seniors, youth, families and groups in need.”

“The Willie Brown Leadership program changed my daughter’s life! In the program, she learned about what it means to be part of a community of leaders and change-maker in Bloomington-Normal. Interacting with leaders and professionals in the Bloomington-Normal communities was very impactful. She was inspired by their willingness to fully support the community of. Now, she is looking for opportunities to serve as well as looking to the future for what will be her impact. Under the mentorship of the compassionate staff at Western Ave., our daughter can see her potential and is not afraid to dream big. Currently, she is in a community service youth group for young women, Zeta Amicettes, where she works at the Eastern Illinois Food bank. We could not be more proud of her growth and maturity. We owe much of this to Western Avenue and your support of young people in the community.”
